History of Areas in Sri Lanka.
In 1833 a regulative
committee was made, making the island a strategically and officially single
unit. Five regions were made, later ventured into nine, and these were
partitioned into 21 locale. These regions were managed by authorities known as
Government Specialists or Partner Government Specialists.
In 1955, the area
supplanted the region as the country's vitally authoritative unit. Ampara
Region was made in April 1961, trailed by the production of Mullaitivu and
Gampaha locale in September 1978 through another constitution, which likewise
once again introduced the area as the vitally regulatory unit. The last area to
be made was Kilinochchi in February 1984, and the ongoing constitution (that of
1978) states that the domain of Sri Lanka comprises of 25 managerial regions.
These regions might be partitioned or amalgamated by a goal of the Parliament
of Sri Lanka.
Starting around 1987
the 25 locale are absolutely authoritative under the 9 Commonplace Gatherings
made in by the thirteenth Amendment to the Sri Lanka constitution.
Note that albeit the
Northern Area has Five Managerial Locale, it has just two Electoral Regions.
Consequently there are just 22 Electoral Regions in Sri Lanka.
Jaffna and Kilinochchi
structure the Jaffna Electoral Area.
Mannar, Vavuniya, and
Mullaitivu structure the Vanni Electoral Area.
The Ampara Locale is
known as the Digamadulla Electoral Area.
